Network
From the first version (1993:discomedia), miX-L was able to "broadcast" your program and let you edit your contents at the same time. Now you can even control your contents, programs, tickers... via the network.
miX-L consists of three applications: the server, the player and the controller.
The server application is responsible for file handling, automatic updates, program authorization and communication between players and controllers.
The controller is your user interface for administrating the application functions, contents, infotainmen subscriptions, language settings and more.
Finally the player takes over the part of actually displaying your contents and making them a program.
Advantages:
Every single application can be installed on a different PC or on the same PC - the only requirement is that the PCs are connected over a network (LAN). This concept offers some very useful advantages:
- You may install your applications on those computers where you need them - this is especially handy for big locations. E.g. install the controller in your office and/or in the technical department and the player close to the screens, which allows you to use cheap network cable instead of expensive video cable for long distances.
- You may combine multiple controllers. This feature allows several users to add or change content and controllers can be installed in different rooms - depending on your requirements.
- You may also combine several players. This allows you to install player PCs close to your screens (short cable distance!) or to build player networks for big systems with different contents or screen formats. Or in case you want e.g. 4 different output signals, you can use either a special graphic card (quadro-head) or simply take two PCs with dual-head graphic cards. It is also a possibility to do some "load balancing" if you play very high resolution contents.
- We are also preparing to allow controller-player connections over the internet and VPN. This way you will be able to change contents over the internet. Or your agency can add the newest advertisements theirselves.
- The player application copies media files to a local folder and the do it only if the file has changed - so there is no streaming that would need high-speed-networks and the playback will not slow down your network.
- There is no numerical limit for players, controllers and outputs. However the number of available components depends on your license
