memedia as digital signage provider in Shanghai at the EXPO 2010 | miX-L Digital Signage Software

EXPO2010 Sky-Skan in Shanghai

Expo ShanghaiMunich/Shanghai, May 2010: The Munich-based company Sky-Skan chose memedia as its digital signage provider for its project at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Sky-Skan supplies the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with all AV systems for its Pavilion at the Expo 2010.

In the entrance area of Saudi Arabia’s Pavilion, 20 Panasonic 50-inch plasma screens are controlled using the digital signage software “miX-L”. Here, visitors are informed on a range of topics, including Saudi Arabia’s Pavilion, the country’s cultural activities, and sponsors’ news.

Glenn Smith, Managing Director of Sky-Skan, asserts: “We are especially impressed by the complete solution offered by memedia, consisting of the MSI Windbox 2 HD and the digital signage application “miX-L”. Due to the long distances that had to be covered to the control room and the required full-HD resolution, we needed one player that was locally assigned to each screen. In doing so, we were able to avoid having to install kilometre-long fibre optic cables. The flat design of the MSI Windbox 2 ensured DS player's invisibility for every screen. Apart from current HD programme topics, customers asked for the possibility to upload content updates quickly, regularly, and network-based. In conclusion, the complete solution “miX-L” satisfied all requirements extremely well”.

Sky-Skan ExpoMemedia was always available and ready to assist at short notice during the installation. Whenever necessary, the miX-L support request button provided on-site engineers in Shanghai with direct help from Munich with programming and configuration.

Glenn Smith added: “I believe that compared to support via telephone or e-mail, this very function itself enabled us to save many hours of work and to make substantial savings”.

Saudi Arabia’s Pavilion at the EXPO2010 proved a highly popular attraction because of its exceptional architectural design and the impressive multimedia experience alone. Currently, over 20,000 visitors per day tolerate waiting periods of more than 4 hours. Over the six months of EXPO, the exhibitors expect up to 3 million visitors.
